Whenever an author attempts to write their own version of a beloved classic, the results can be precarious at best. Jane Austen's shoes are pretty much impossible to fill. This novel in and of itself is very well-written. The characters are well-developed and the underlying subplot (genetic experimentation) is an interesting twist.
Because it is "inspired by Jane Austen's Persuasion," I could not help comparing the two. Unfortunately, I found this attempt wanting and left me quite unsatisfied. I need to go back and re-read the original Persuasion.
